Ushiyama-san #2

Ushiyama-san #2 is a central installment in the short-lived but highly regarded manga series by the artist known as Q. Hayashida. Originally serialized in the late 1990s, the series emerged from the experimental underground manga scene in Japan. It reflects Hayashida’s signature dark, gritty, and surrealist aesthetic that would later define her mainstream success with Dorohedoro, showcasing her early mastery of atmospheric storytelling and uniquely tactile character design.

The issue functions as a stylistic bridge between traditional gag manga and the more brooding, cinematic style that Hayashida developed throughout her career. Critics and fans often look back at these early works for their raw energy and the distinct, rough-hewn illustrations that set the tone for the series' cult following. As a physical artifact, it represents a pivotal developmental period for an influential creator who has since been recognized for her profound impact on the seinen manga genre.
