Where it came from
Vampire Dormitory, known in Japan as Vampire Danshi Ryo, is a manga series written and illustrated by Ema Toyama. The second volume continues the narrative established in the premiere, following a young woman named Mito who disguises herself as a boy to live in an all-male dormitory, only to discover her roommates are vampires. Toyama designed the series to blend supernatural romance with classic gender-bending tropes, aiming for an audience that enjoys high-school drama infused with fantasy elements.
The series began serialization in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine before being compiled into collected tankobon volumes. Ema Toyama is recognized for her prolific career in the shojo genre, and her work on this series reflects a focus on character-driven dynamics and aesthetic appeal. Upon its release, the series found a steady readership among fans of contemporary shojo manga, eventually leading to its adaptation into an anime series, which further solidified its standing within the genre.
