Venom: The Mace #3

Venom: The Mace was a three-issue limited series published by Marvel Comics in 1994, emerging during a period of intense popularity for the character Venom. The series was designed to capitalize on the character's status as a breakout anti-hero by pairing him against a niche, gritty antagonist known as The Mace. It fit into the broader expansion of the 'Venomverse' during the mid-nineties, a time when Marvel frequently utilized miniseries to experiment with darker, more violent narratives that moved away from traditional superhero conventions.

The creative team behind the issue included writer Carl Potts and artist Bill Bryan. Their work sought to maintain the high-octane, action-oriented aesthetic that defined 1990s comic book art, characterized by visceral panel layouts and a grim, street-level atmosphere. Like many titles from this era, it was received as a standard genre entry that appealed primarily to established followers of the symbiote mythos rather than critics looking for significant shifts in character development.
