Venus Wars #11

Venus Wars #11 is part of the original monthly serialization of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s science fiction epic, which was published by Gakken in Japan throughout the late 1980s. The series depicts a gritty, high-stakes struggle for independence on a terraformed Venus, drawing significant inspiration from military history and sociopolitical conflict. Yasuhiko, already a renowned animator and character designer for series like Mobile Suit Gundam, infused the manga with his signature cinematic pacing and complex, realistic character portrayals, distinguishing it from the more lighthearted fare prevalent in the magazine's demographic at the time.

The design of the series reflects Yasuhiko's meticulous background in animation, utilizing dense mechanical detail and expressive, fluid character anatomy that grounded the fantastical setting in a tangible reality. Issue #11 fits into the latter half of the overarching narrative, focusing on the tactical maneuvers and human toll of the Venusian war. Upon its release, the manga was well-regarded for its technical proficiency and mature narrative depth, eventually serving as the foundational source material for the 1989 feature film adaptation directed by Yasuhiko himself.
