Vigilante #14

Vigilante #14, published by DC Comics in February 1985, belongs to a gritty superhero series that emerged during the mid-1980s trend toward deconstructing the traditional crime-fighter archetype. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, the series focused on Adrian Chase, a district attorney who adopts a lethal persona to combat criminals after his family is murdered. This specific issue reflects the series' commitment to exploring the psychological toll of vigilantism and the moral ambiguity inherent in extrajudicial justice.

The interior art for this period of the series was primarily handled by artists such as Alan Kupperberg, whose work maintained the somber, grounded aesthetic defined by the title's original creative team. The cover design and narrative direction were intended to distinguish Vigilante from more traditional costumed heroes by emphasizing realism and the harsh consequences of violence. While the series was often overshadowed by high-profile event comics of the era, it remains respected by historians for its earnest attempt to bridge the gap between classic superhero tropes and the burgeoning dark tone of 1980s comics.
