Vigilante #17

Vigilante #17 was published by DC Comics in April 1985 as part of a gritty, street-level series that emerged from the popularity of the character's introduction in The New Teen Titans. Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez, the series explored the complex morality of Adrian Chase, a district attorney turned vigilante who sought justice outside the law. This specific issue features art by Todd Klein and Alan Kupperberg, continuing the book's reputation for tackling heavier, more grounded themes than the typical superhero fare of the mid-1980s.

The narrative tone of Vigilante was significantly influenced by the vigilante film tropes prevalent in the era, reflecting a darker shift in comic book storytelling. As the series progressed, it moved away from standard comic book tropes to examine the psychological toll of Chase's actions. The creative direction aimed to create a character whose internal conflict was as central to the story as the physical confrontations, a design choice that earned the series a dedicated cult following among readers who appreciated the more somber, character-driven side of the DC Universe.
