Vigilante #4

Vigilante #4, published by DC Comics in 1984, arrived during a period in the early 1980s when the publisher was experimenting with grittier, more grounded anti-hero narratives. The series, featuring Adrian Chase as a disillusioned district attorney who adopts a lethal persona to combat crime, was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. It emerged from the success of the character's introduction in the New Teen Titans, reflecting a broader trend in comics toward exploring the psychological toll of vigilante justice.

The art and writing for this issue were handled by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard, maintaining the series' signature tone of noir-inspired urban tension. Designed to challenge the moral binaries typical of the era, the book was received as a complex character study that prioritized internal conflict over traditional superhero tropes. While it remains a niche entry in the DC canon, it is recognized by historians of the medium for its role in defining the street-level, morally ambiguous storytelling that would influence later titles in the decade.
