Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #106

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #106 was published in 1961 by Dell Comics as part of their long-running Four Color series and subsequent self-titled run. During this era, Dell held the licensing rights for Walter Lantz’s animated characters, adapting the manic energy of the theatrical shorts into a serialized print format intended primarily for younger audiences and fans of the burgeoning animation boom of the mid-twentieth century.

The interior artwork followed the established house style for licensed animation comics, focusing on slapstick visual gags and lighthearted narratives. The design was heavily influenced by the character models developed at Walter Lantz Productions, prioritizing clear character expressions and action-oriented layouts that mirrored the timing and pacing of the animated cartoons rather than the more complex layouts found in superhero titles of the same period.
