Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #107

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue #107 was published by Dell Comics in the early 1960s as part of their long-running Four Color and subsequent solo-title series. These comics were central to the mid-century expansion of animation characters into print, intended to capitalize on the immense popularity of the cinematic shorts produced by the Walter Lantz studio. The transition from screen to page allowed audiences to enjoy the character's manic energy and signature laugh in a static format during the golden age of newsstand comic distribution.

The interior artwork for the Dell and Gold Key Woody Woodpecker series was often a collaborative effort by studio artists and freelance illustrators tasked with maintaining the recognizable look established by Lantz’s animators. The design prioritized high-contrast, kinetic layouts that mirrored the frenetic pacing of the original cartoons. While these issues were primarily viewed as inexpensive entertainment for children, they are now valued by historians for their role in preserving the aesthetic of theatrical animation during the post-war era.
