Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #111

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #111 was published in 1961 by Dell Comics as part of the long-running Four Color series and subsequent self-titled run. This era of the comic book industry followed the implementation of the Comics Code Authority, which influenced the tone of children's publications toward sanitized, moralizing adventures that maintained the recognizable personas established in Lantz's theatrical cartoons.

The art and storytelling during this period relied on the established house style of the Western Publishing group, which produced these comics for Dell. The illustrators and writers were generally uncredited staff members tasked with translating the frantic, surreal energy of Woody Woodpecker’s animated shorts into the more static, sequential narrative structure of a comic book, resulting in a reliable, colorful collectible that anchored the humor and mischief of the character for a younger mid-century audience.
