Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #117

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue number 117 was published in the mid-1960s as part of the long-running Western Publishing comic series, which licensed the popular animated character created by Walter Lantz. By this stage in the publication's history, the comics served as a staple of the Gold Key imprint, providing lighthearted, episodic adventures for younger readers that mirrored the zany tone of the original theatrical cartoons.

The visual identity of these issues was defined by a house style that prioritized clarity and kinetic energy, intended to translate the frantic motion of the animation into a static panel format. While individual uncredited artists and writers often handled these stories under editorial oversight, the work was generally well-received by the comic industry as a consistent example of mid-century licensed humor, maintaining the recognizable persona of the woodpecker for a generation of fans.
