Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #112

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue #112 was published in 1963 as part of the long-running Dell Comics series that adapted the frantic antics of the animated bird for the printed page. During this era, Dell focused on family-friendly, slapstick humor, tapping into the enduring popularity of Lantz's theatrical shorts that had entertained audiences since the 1940s. The comic served as a vehicle to keep the character relevant for younger readers through episodic adventures that mirrored the chaotic energy and visual gags of the cartoons.

The interior art and cover design followed the house style established by the various studio artists employed by Dell and later Gold Key. These artists aimed to translate Woody’s distinct visual personality—defined by his iconic laugh and mischievous grin—into a static medium. While the creative teams often worked under house aliases or studio credits rather than individual bylines, the aesthetic was widely recognized for its clean lines and vibrant coloring, which were hallmarks of mid-century American comic book production and helped define the character's legacy in the merchandising landscape.
