Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #83

Woody Woodpecker #83 was published by Dell Comics in the late 1950s as part of their long-running Four Color and subsequent solo-title series featuring Walter Lantz’s iconic avian creation. During this era, Dell held the licensing rights to many of the most popular animation studios, translating the frantic, gag-driven energy of the theatrical cartoons into a sequential narrative format suitable for a younger audience.

The comic’s design followed the standardized house style of Dell’s animation adaptations, which emphasized clean lines and vibrant colors to match the look of the animated shorts. While specific creative credits for individual mid-run issues were often not highlighted by the publisher, the work served as a bridge between the Golden Age of animation and the burgeoning comic market, reflecting the widespread cultural popularity of the character during the mid-20th century.
