Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man #5

Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man was a limited series launched by Marvel Comics in 1999, designed to showcase different creative teams telling stories set within the earlier eras of Peter Parker's career. Issue number five features the conclusion of a story arc written by J.M. DeMatteis with artwork by Michael Zulli. The series as a whole served as a nostalgic anthology, allowing writers to explore the emotional weight of Spider-Man’s formative years through a lens of classic continuity.

The fifth issue specifically highlights the atmospheric and somewhat surreal visual style of Michael Zulli, who was tasked with illustrating a story involving the Vulture. By utilizing a rotating roster of talent, the series aimed to provide varying interpretations of the character's growth, though it remained grounded in the traditional Spider-Man mythos. Reception for this run typically centers on the specific creative choices of the individual writers and artists, who were encouraged to deliver self-contained, thematic narratives rather than long-term overarching plots.
