X-O Manowar #46

X-O Manowar issue 46 was published in 1996 as part of the original Valiant Comics run. Created by Jim Shooter and Bob Layton in 1992, the series centered on Aric of Dacia, a fifth-century Visigoth warrior abducted by aliens who returns to the modern day bonded to an sentient, hyper-advanced suit of armor. This era of the series occurred during the significant transition period following the acquisition of Valiant by Acclaim Entertainment, which introduced new creative directions and editorial shifts for the publisher's core titles.

The issue features the artistic contributions characteristic of mid-nineties superhero comics, emphasizing dynamic layouts and the heavy, grit-focused aesthetic common to the era's Valiant house style. As a later entry in the initial volume, the story reflects the publisher's attempt to navigate the shifting landscape of the direct market and the evolving narrative arcs of the Valiant Universe. While X-O Manowar remains a foundational property for the publisher, individual issues from this late stage of the initial run are primarily collected by enthusiasts of the 1990s independent comic scene.
