X-Statix #13

X-Statix #13, published by Marvel Comics in 2003, serves as a pivotal installment in the satirical superhero series created by writer Peter Milligan and artist Mike Allred. The title emerged from the ashes of X-Force, evolving into a cynical, media-obsessed exploration of mutant celebrity culture. This specific issue is noted for its daring narrative choices and its distinct pop-art aesthetic, which sharply contrasted with the more traditional, gritty house style prevalent in mainstream comics at the time.

The series was conceived as a metafictional critique of fame, with Milligan and Allred aiming to depict superheroes whose primary motivation is popularity rather than altruism. The visual direction provided by Allred utilized bold lines and retro-inspired coloring to mirror the superficiality of the characters' world. X-Statix received significant critical acclaim for its innovative tone and willingness to subvert comic book tropes, firmly establishing it as a cult classic within the Marvel landscape.
