X-Statix #5

X-Statix #5, published by Marvel Comics in 2002, serves as part of the satirical and subversively dark run written by Peter Milligan with interior art by Mike Allred. The series evolved from X-Force, shifting focus toward a team of mutant celebrities who were more concerned with their media presence and public relations than traditional heroics. This issue continues the series' exploration of pop culture, fame, and the expendability of modern icons within the superhero landscape.

Mike Allred’s distinct, pop-art-inspired aesthetic was instrumental in establishing the visual language of X-Statix, providing a bright, retro-modern contrast to the cynical and sometimes morbid subject matter scripted by Milligan. The series was noted by critics for its bold departure from conventional comic book tropes, often serving as a critique of how real-world celebrity culture prioritizes image over substance. It remains a hallmark of early 2000s creator-driven work within the Marvel mainstream.
