X-Statix #9

X-Statix #9, published in 2002, serves as part of the satirical and subversive Marvel Comics series created by writer Peter Milligan and artist Mike Allred. Emerging from the X-Force title, this run focused on a team of celebrity-obsessed mutants whose primary motivation was fame and media perception rather than traditional heroic virtues. The series gained significant attention for its willingness to kill off core characters and its biting commentary on contemporary pop culture and reality television.

The aesthetic of X-Statix #9 is defined by Mike Allred’s signature pop-art style, characterized by clean lines and bold colors that diverge sharply from the gritty, hyper-detailed house style typical of Marvel at the time. Allred aimed to give the book a distinctively modern, media-savvy visual identity that mirrored the characters' preoccupation with their own branding. Critically, the series was lauded for its audacity and thematic depth, cementing it as a cult favorite that challenged the conventions of superhero narratives.
