X-Statix #7

X-Statix #7, published by Marvel Comics in 2002, serves as part of the satirical and subversively dark superhero series written by Peter Milligan and illustrated by Mike Allred. Born out of the X-Force title, the series rebranded its team into a celebrity-obsessed squad of mutants who treated heroic acts as reality television spectacles, providing a cynical commentary on fame and media culture during the early 2000s.

The visual identity of this issue is defined by Mike Allred’s distinct pop-art aesthetic, which utilized clean lines and vibrant palettes to juxtapose the violent, disposable nature of the team's missions with the glossy surface of tabloid culture. The issue was received by critics as a sharp, postmodern departure from traditional superhero storytelling, praised for its willingness to kill off major characters and its unflinching look at the hollowness of modern celebrity.
