Where it came from
The 1988 Zorro series, published by Marvel Comics under its Star Comics imprint, was developed to reintroduce the classic swashbuckling hero to a younger generation. Following the success of various television adaptations, Marvel sought to leverage the character's enduring appeal by focusing on accessible, action-oriented storytelling that remained faithful to the iconic masked vigilante's origins in early 20th-century pulp fiction.
The creative direction for this series emphasized vibrant artwork and episodic adventures that captured the tension between the affluent Diego de la Vega and his alter ego. While the series was a modest effort within the expansive Marvel catalog, it is regarded by collectors as a distinct stylistic bridge between the vintage Zorro comic strips and the more modern serialized interpretations of the late eighties.
