Zorro #198807

Published in July 1988, this specific issue of Zorro arrived during a period when the character, created by Johnston McCulley in 1919, was experiencing a modest resurgence in comic form. This iteration was part of the series produced by Revolutionary Comics, a publisher known for its 'Unauthorized Biography' titles and its attempt to bring a grittier, more contemporary sensibility to classic pulp figures. The design choices of this era often reflected the aesthetic shifts of the late 1980s, moving toward more dynamic action poses and saturated color palettes compared to the black-and-white newspaper strips of the character's earlier history.

The creative team behind this issue aimed to balance the traditional swashbuckling tropes of the masked vigilante with the narrative pacing favored by comic audiences of the time. While the character of Zorro remained a staple of American folklore, this particular issue serves as a snapshot of how independent publishers sought to keep the legacy of Don Diego de la Vega relevant. It was generally received as a standard entry in the series, serving as a functional bridge for fans who valued the endurance of the character across various media formats.
