Where it came from
The Tarpit Trap card was released as part of the Local Game Store (LGS) promotional series, a program designed by the game's publishers to drive foot traffic to brick-and-mortar hobby shops. These cards were distributed to store owners as incentives for hosting sanctioned events, providing players with unique, alternate-art versions of existing cards that reward community engagement.
The design of the LGS promotional line often emphasizes specialized illustration styles to distinguish them from standard set cards. Tarpit Trap was crafted to align with the game's broader mechanical focus on defense-reaction gameplay, prioritizing strategic stalling tactics. While these cards are highly valued for their collectibility and limited release window, their reception within the player community is primarily defined by their utility in competitive decks and their status as markers of store loyalty.
