Badtz-Maru Katsuki

Released as part of the cross-over collaboration between Sanrio and the My Hero Academia franchise, this figure reimagines the mischievous Sanrio character Badtz-Maru as the explosive hero-in-training Katsuki Bakugo. The design integrates Badtz-Maru’s signature grumpy expression and spiky hair with Bakugo’s iconic hero costume, including his high-collared neck guard and grenade-style gauntlets. This fusion was intended to celebrate the shared legacy of Japanese pop culture icons by placing Sanrio’s classic cast into the roles of popular anime characters.

Funko produced this figure within the Pop! Animation line, numbered 793, to cater to fans of both collectible vinyl figures and long-running animation series. The aesthetic approach maintains the simplified, stylized silhouette of the Funko brand while ensuring the character is instantly recognizable through specific color schemes and costume motifs. Upon release, the set was received as a novel novelty item, appealing primarily to crossover collectors who appreciate the juxtaposition of Sanrio's whimsical design philosophy with the high-energy, action-oriented world of My Hero Academia.
