Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! 8-Bit line, this figure depicts the character Barb Holland from the first season of the Netflix series Stranger Things. The figure was produced to capitalize on the character's unexpected cult status among fans, who resonated with her brief but memorable role as the series' breakout 'fan favorite' victim during the show's 2016 debut.
The 8-Bit design aesthetic was chosen by Funko to evoke the nostalgic visual language of 1980s video games, directly mirroring the retro science-fiction themes of the show itself. By rendering the characters in a stylized, pixelated format, the designers aimed to reinforce the aesthetic of the era in which the series is set. The figure was generally well-received by collectors who appreciated the thematic consistency between the show's Dungeons & Dragons-inspired tone and the unconventional 8-bit styling.
