Where it came from
The Beast Pop! figure, numbered 21 within the Marvel Universe series, was released by Funko as part of their expanding vinyl figure line. This specific iteration features a flocked texture, a design choice intended to replicate the character’s dense, blue fur, distinguishing it from the standard smooth vinyl release. It represents a period where Funko began experimenting with tactile finishes to appeal to collectors seeking more nuanced versions of established characters.
The figure draws its visual inspiration from the classic Marvel Comics appearance of Hank McCoy, specifically leaning into the iconic 'blue and fuzzy' iteration of the character that debuted in the 1970s. By focusing on this version of Beast, the design team aimed to capture the essence of a foundational X-Men member. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by Marvel enthusiasts, quickly becoming a staple in the early Marvel Pop! catalog due to the character's enduring popularity and the unique aesthetic provided by the flocked coating.
