Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the Marvel Universe: Series 2 collection, this figure depicts Jean Grey in her iconic Dark Phoenix persona. Produced by Funko, the piece is a key entry in the early days of the Pop! Marvel line, capturing the character during the height of her influence in the X-Men comics. Its design utilizes the classic, stylized Pop! aesthetic—oversized head, simplified facial features, and a compact body—intended to make complex comic book characters accessible and uniform for collectors.
The figure was conceptualized during a period when Funko was rapidly expanding its licensed offerings, aiming to bridge the gap between niche comic fandom and mainstream pop culture merchandise. The design choice to feature the fiery-haired, red-costumed version of Dark Phoenix reflected a commitment to deep-cut comic lore that resonated with X-Men enthusiasts. Upon its arrival, the figure was well-received for its distinct color palette, quickly becoming a staple for Marvel completists during the early growth of the toy line.
