Dark Phoenix (Flame Wings)

Released as part of the second wave of Funko's Marvel Pop! vinyl figures, the Dark Phoenix (#22) represents the iconic transformation of Jean Grey from the X-Men comic series. Created to celebrate the character's most volatile and powerful iteration, the figure depicts her in the signature red and gold costume, featuring translucent orange flame wings that emphasize her status as a cosmic entity. This piece emerged during the earlier era of the Pop! line, characterized by a more standardized aesthetic that focused on capturing key visual markers of popular comic book characters.

The design draws directly from the classic Phoenix Saga aesthetic, favoring the minimalist, wide-eyed look synonymous with the Funko brand. While the figure was a standard retail release rather than a limited edition prototype, it has garnered significant attention from collectors due to the popularity of the Dark Phoenix storyline and the relative scarcity of early-wave Marvel figures. It remains a representative example of how Funko utilized the Marvel license to bridge the gap between niche comic fandom and mass-market vinyl toy collecting.
