Where it came from
Released as part of the initial Sesame Street wave of Funko Pop! figures, Big Bird occupies the number 10 slot in this series. The design mirrors the iconic Muppet created by Jim Henson and Caroll Spinney, utilizing the classic Pop! aesthetic of a large, square-ish head and simplified features. The 'flocked' variant is particularly notable for its fuzzy, textured surface, which was specifically chosen by the design team to emulate the tactile feel of the character's yellow plumage.
The figure emerged during a period of rapid expansion for Funko, as the company sought to secure licensing for beloved childhood properties to appeal to adult collectors. The design was received as a faithful interpretation of the character, with the flocked texture serving as a premium touch that distinguished it from the standard smooth-vinyl version. It remains a cornerstone piece for those building a nostalgic collection centered on 1970s and 1980s television staples.
