Where it came from
Buttercup was released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line in 2017, celebrating the enduring legacy of The Powerpuff Girls, the iconic animated series created by Craig McCracken for Cartoon Network. The series, which premiered in 1998, followed the adventures of three super-powered sisters in the city of Townsville, with Buttercup serving as the group's fierce and tomboyish fighter.
The Funko design team stylized Buttercup to fit the brand's signature aesthetic, emphasizing her short, raven hair, signature green dress, and large, expressive eyes. The figure was produced during a period of significant expansion for the Pop! line, as Funko aimed to capture nostalgic appeal among adult fans who grew up watching 90s and early 2000s animation. Upon release, it was well-received by collectors for its accurate representation of the character's core personality and classic color palette.
