Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line in 2016, this figure commemorates the cult classic Nickelodeon series CatDog, which originally premiered in 1998. The show, created by Peter Hannan, followed the surreal and often chaotic life of a conjoined hybrid brother duo. This figure was designed to translate the unique, elongated aesthetic of the animated characters into the stylized vinyl proportions iconic to the Funko brand, capturing the distinct dual-headed design that defined the cartoon's visual identity.
The reception of the CatDog Pop! reflected the broader trend of nostalgic 90s animation appreciation among adult collectors. By distilling the expressive, slapstick nature of the characters into a static collectible form, Funko aimed to evoke the charm of the original series for fans of Nickelodeon’s golden era of animation. As number 221 in the series, it stands as a piece of 90s pop culture history, documenting the era's experimentation with unconventional character design.
