Where it came from
Cell Max was introduced as the primary antagonist of the 2022 film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, serving as a gargantuan, mindless iteration of the original Cell created by the Red Ribbon Army. Funko released this Pop! Animation figure as number 1705 to capture the character's formidable and hulking aesthetic, which distinguishes him from the more refined, sentient design of the classic Cell. The figure reflects the transition of the Dragon Ball franchise into 3D computer-generated animation, emphasizing the character's jagged features, vibrant red and green color palette, and menacing scale.
The design process for this Pop! focuses on translating the chaotic and industrial appearance of Cell Max into the stylized, oversized-head silhouette traditional to Funko. By highlighting the character's distinct organic-mechanical fusion, the figure serves as a memento of the Super Hero film's narrative shift, which focused on the legacy of Doctor Gero's experiments. Like many entries in the Animation line, this piece is intended for fans of modern Dragon Ball iterations who appreciate the representation of newer, cinematic villains within their collections.
