Where it came from
Cheetara was released by Funko as part of their Pop! Television line in 2015, capturing the iconic speedster from the original 1980s Thundercats animated series. The figure was produced during a period when Funko was aggressively expanding its nostalgic properties, aiming to appeal to adults who grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons. This line was designed to distill complex character designs into the brand's signature stylized aesthetic, focusing on recognizable features like her signature orange hair, staff, and Thundercats emblem.
The design process for this figure focused on balancing the character's sleek, agile appearance with the stocky proportions standard to all Pop! figures. By emphasizing her pointed ears, her staff accessory, and her cat-like suit, the designers aimed to preserve the essence of the character while maintaining brand uniformity. Upon release, the figure was met with positive reception from Thundercats fans and collectors, who valued the addition of a prominent female lead to their displays, solidifying its place as a staple of the broader animation-themed collection.
