Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Rides series, this figure celebrates the iconic 1980s animated series ThunderCats. The design captures the muscular, nunchaku-wielding Panthro seated within his signature Thundertank, a vehicle known in the original show for its versatile combat capabilities and feline-inspired aesthetic. This piece was produced to evoke nostalgia among fans of the original Rankin/Bass production, utilizing the stylized, large-headed vinyl aesthetic that defines the broader Pop! collectibles line.
The figure was conceptualized to honor the classic character designs of the 1985 series while adapting them into the modern aesthetic of Funko's vinyl toy line. The design focuses on the contrast between Panthro's blue skin and metallic combat gear, paired with the detailed, blocky construction of the Thundertank. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors of the ThunderCats franchise, who viewed it as a meaningful homage to the aesthetic of the 1980s action figure era.
