Where it came from
The Chihoohoo figure, numbered 249 in the Pop! Asia series, draws its inspiration from the creative universe of Scary Girl, the gothic-cute character property developed by Australian artist Nathan Jurevicius. Initially conceived as a digital art project and graphic novel, Scary Girl gained an international following in the early 2000s for its surreal aesthetic and distinct, whimsical character designs.
This Funko vinyl release captures the specific anatomical quirks of the Chihoohoo character, emphasizing Jurevicius’s signature blend of dark, folklore-inspired themes with accessible, stylized toy design. As part of the Pop! Asia expansion, the figure served to bridge the gap between niche designer art toy collectors and the broader mainstream appeal of the Funko brand, receiving appreciation for its faithful translation of Jurevicius’s illustrative style into a three-dimensional form.
