Where it came from
Released as a 2017 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, this flocked two-pack features the iconic Disney chipmunk duo as they appear in the Kingdom Hearts video game series. The figures were designed to capture the distinct aesthetic of the Square Enix and Disney collaboration, utilizing a flocked texture to mimic the appearance of fur. This release targeted the intersection of Disney animation fans and video game collectors, serving as a specialized expansion to the broader Pop! Disney line.
Funko utilized their standard stylized Pop! silhouette for these figures, opting for a soft, velvet-like flocking finish to distinguish them from the standard vinyl releases. The inclusion of the San Diego Comic-Con branding and the specific Kingdom Hearts iteration was intended to drive demand among convention attendees and completionist collectors. Upon release, the set was received as a sought-after rarity within the Disney gaming sub-category, noted primarily for its textured design variation.
