Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line in 2018, this figure commemorates the 2009 stop-motion feature film Coraline, which was produced by the studio Laika. The film, directed by Henry Selick and based on the novella by Neil Gaiman, is celebrated for its intricate craftsmanship and eerie aesthetic, which Funko sought to capture by depicting the protagonist, Coraline Jones, in her iconic yellow raincoat.
The design of the figure reflects the characteristic Funko aesthetic—a stylized, oversized head and simplified facial features—while incorporating specific details from the film, such as the translucent raincoat and the dragonfly hair clip. It was released to appeal to fans of Laika’s distinct visual style and collectors of figures based on cult-classic animation. Upon its debut, the item was well-received by fans of the movie, who appreciated the attention to the character's signature look from the film's most recognizable sequences.
