Where it came from
General Ursus was released as part of the initial Pop! Movies line by Funko, debuting as figure number 28. The character originates from the 1970 film Beneath the Planet of the Apes, the first sequel to the original science fiction classic. As the primary antagonist of the film, Ursus serves as the commanding general of the gorilla army, representing the militant and expansionist faction within the ape hierarchy.
The design of the figure reflects Funko's signature aesthetic, characterized by a stylized oversized head and simplified facial features, while maintaining the recognizable details of the character's military regalia from the film. The figure was produced to cater to the growing demographic of adult collectors interested in classic science fiction cinema, and it remains a notable piece for fans of the Planet of the Apes franchise due to its depiction of a historically significant cinematic villain.
