Where it came from
Released in 2023 as part of the Pop! Ad Icons series, this figure reimagines Geoffrey the Giraffe, the long-standing mascot of Toys 'R' Us, as Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This crossover was developed to celebrate the brand heritage of the retailer while tapping into the nostalgic appeal of 1980s pop culture icons, serving as a promotional item that bridges two distinct eras of toy marketing history.
The figure features the classic Funko Pop aesthetic with a stylized, oversized head and simplified bodily proportions, adapted to incorporate Raphael's iconic red eye mask and twin sai weapons. Designed by the internal creative team at Funko, the piece reflects a trend of 'mascot mashups' intended to appeal to adult collectors who grew up frequenting Toys 'R' Us, and it was received as a playful tribute to the intersection of corporate branding and Saturday morning cartoon fandom.
