Where it came from
The Gir Eating Pizza figure is part of the Pop! Television line by Funko, released to celebrate the enduring popularity of the Nickelodeon series Invader Zim. First aired in 2001, the show gained a massive cult following for its dark humor and distinctive visual style, which centers on the erratic robot assistant Gir and his extraterrestrial master. This particular figure captures one of the character's most recognizable quirks: his intense, childlike obsession with human junk food.
The design draws directly from the show’s animation style, emphasizing Gir's signature oversized dog disguise and his wide-eyed, chaotic expression. By selecting a moment centered on a slice of pizza, Funko leans into the fan-favorite trope of Gir’s gluttony, which often served as a source of comedic relief amidst the show's otherwise cynical tone. It was received by the collecting community as a nostalgic tribute to the series, appealing to both long-time fans who remember the show's original run and newer viewers who discovered it through its successful comic book and syndication revivals.
