Gloomy Bear [Flocked]

Gloomy Bear, or Gloomy the Naughty Grizzly, was created in 2000 by the Japanese artist Mori Chack. The character represents a subversion of the typical cute mascot aesthetic, depicting a bear that is ostensibly cuddly but retains its wild, violent instincts, often seen covered in its owner Pity’s blood. The concept emerged from the Japanese 'kawaii' culture, purposefully clashing soft, pastel visuals with darker, slapstick themes of carnage.

The Funko Pop! Animation version, numbered 1190, translates this specific character design into the signature stylized vinyl format. The flocked variant in particular serves as a nod to the original plush merchandise that launched the franchise. By adding a fuzzy texture, Funko emphasized the tactile nature of the bear, bridging the gap between a high-end vinyl collectible and the soft toy aesthetic that Mori Chack originally intended to parody.
