Groot

The Groot figure, numbered 49 in the Funko Pop! Marvel series, was released in 2014 to coincide with the theatrical debut of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy. It was part of the inaugural wave of collectibles dedicated to the film, designed to capture the breakout popularity of the character among audiences. The aesthetic follows Funko's signature stylized approach, featuring a rounded head, large black eyes, and a minimalist design intended to distill the complex textures of the character's wooden exterior into a recognizable vinyl format.

The design process for this early entry in the Marvel line focused on maintaining the recognizable silhouette of the character while adhering to the consistent proportions established across the Pop! brand. Upon release, the figure was met with significant enthusiasm from collectors and fans, becoming a staple of the broader Marvel merchandising initiative. It remains a representative example of the initial push to expand the Pop! Marvel category beyond the core Avengers and X-Men characters, reflecting the rapid growth and diversification of Funko's licensing portfolio during that period.
