Where it came from
Released in 2014 as part of the initial wave of Funko Pop! figures for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, this figure captures Drax the Destroyer as he appeared in James Gunn's first film. Funko developed this line to capitalize on the expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, utilizing their signature stylized aesthetic to translate the intricate makeup and costume designs of the live-action cast into a compact, vinyl format.
The design prioritizes the character's distinct tattoos and dual-blade weaponry, reflecting the simplified, large-headed look that became a cultural touchstone for pop culture collectibles during the 2010s. Like the other figures in the first Guardians set, it was met with enthusiasm from collectors eager for merchandise representing the ragtag group of heroes, quickly becoming a staple for fans of the franchise as the films gained widespread acclaim.
