Where it came from
The Hatbox Ghost is an iconic figure from Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction, first appearing briefly when the ride opened in 1969. The character features a translucent head that vanishes and reappears within a hatbox held by the ghost, a practical effect achieved through clever lighting design. Due to technical difficulties with the original mechanism, the ghost was removed shortly after the attraction's debut, remaining a subject of intense fan speculation and lore for decades until a technologically advanced version was permanently reinstated in 2015.
Funko released this Pop! version of the Hatbox Ghost as number 165 in their Disney series, capturing the character's signature hunched silhouette and skeletal visage. Designed with the brand's standard vinyl aesthetic, it draws heavily on the ride's original Marc Davis concept art, which emphasized a whimsical yet spooky Victorian aesthetic. The figure was well-received by Disney enthusiasts as a celebration of the attraction's deep history and the enduring popularity of its most elusive phantom.
