Where it came from
The Funko Pop! Television line, featuring Jason Voorhees as the Red Ranger, draws its inspiration from the 1990s television phenomenon Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, specifically the special crossover fan-art trend that reimagined horror icons in the iconic spandex suits. Released as part of an expansive lineup of pop culture figures, this specific crossover piece blends the menacing silhouette of the Friday the 13th antagonist with the nostalgic design language of the 1993 tokusatsu-inspired superhero series.
The design was crafted to balance Funko’s signature oversized-head aesthetic with the distinct color-coded styling of the original Power Rangers suits. By placing the stoic, hockey-masked horror figure into the vibrant Red Ranger costume, the designers aimed to capture a whimsical juxtaposition that resonated with fans of 80s and 90s cinema. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors who gravitate toward mash-up concepts and niche pop-culture deviations, marking it as a standout in the broader Television collection.
