Where it came from
The 8-Bit Pop! series was released by Funko to celebrate the aesthetic of classic 1980s video games. This particular figure, numbered 23 in the line, represents Jason Voorhees as he appeared in the 1989 Friday the 13th game developed by LJN for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The design intentionally utilizes a pixelated, blocky structure to evoke the limited graphical capabilities of early console hardware, distinguishing it from the standard Pop! vinyl figures.
The figure features the iconic color palette of the NES game, including the distinct turquoise and purple hues used for Jason's mask and clothing. When the series launched, it was marketed toward nostalgic collectors and fans of horror cinema who appreciated the intersection of retro gaming culture and classic slasher films. The design team sought to balance the recognizable silhouette of the Voorhees character with the rigid, square-based constraints of 8-bit digital art.
