Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line, this figure commemorates Jem, the titular lead singer of the 1980s animated series Jem and the Holograms. The series, which originally aired from 1985 to 1988, was created by Christy Marx and produced by Hasbro, Marvel Productions, and Sunbow Productions. It is remembered for its blend of high-fashion aesthetics, music-video-style sequences, and a plot centered on Jerrica Benton, who uses a holographic computer named Synergy to transform into the pop star Jem.
The figure captures the character's iconic 1980s aesthetic, featuring her signature vibrant pink hair and bold, stage-ready attire. Funko’s designers aimed to condense the complex, neon-drenched visual style of the original animation into the company's signature stylized vinyl form. Upon release, the figure was received as a nostalgic tribute for long-term fans of the franchise, serving as a modern physical collectible for a series that helped define the visual landscape of Saturday morning cartoons in the late 1980s.
