Where it came from
Jet Black was released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation line, capturing the steady and pragmatic nature of the captain of the Bebop from the seminal 1998 anime series Cowboy Bebop. The figure reflects the aesthetic of the show's character designer, Toshihiro Kawamoto, whose work is celebrated for blending neo-noir themes with jazz-influenced character archetypes. Jet, with his mechanical arm and stoic expression, was designed to translate the series' high-stakes bounty hunting atmosphere into the stylized, large-headed vinyl format.
Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the series who valued the opportunity to collect the primary crew of the Bebop ship. Funko aimed to maintain the integrity of the original animation style, ensuring that key features like Jet's signature goatee and cybernetic limb were prominent. The figure remains a staple for enthusiasts of the show, serving as a commemorative piece for a series widely considered a masterpiece of late-nineties Japanese animation.
