Kappa (Onyx) (Prototype)

The Kappa Pop figure, designated number 78 within the Legendary Creatures & Myths line, draws its inspiration from the mischievous, water-dwelling water imps of Japanese folklore. Produced as part of Funko’s exploration into global mythology, this specific prototype represents an early design iteration of the standard Kappa figure, showcasing a distinctive monochrome onyx finish rather than the character’s traditional vibrant green coloration.

Designed to capture the quintessential silhouette of the mythical creature, including its trademark head-bowl for water and turtle-like shell, the figure reflects Funko's experimental approach during the expansion of the Pop series. Prototypes like this onyx variant were typically created for internal evaluation and quality control before mass-market production, serving as a unique physical record of the design process before the final aesthetic choices were standardized for general release.
