Kung Lao

Kung Lao number 1075 is part of the Funko Pop! Games series, specifically released to tie into the 2019 release of Mortal Kombat 11. The character, a fan-favorite Shaolin monk known for his bladed hat and agile combat, was adapted into the signature Funko aesthetic as part of a wider wave of figures from the franchise. This line was developed to capture the stylized, exaggerated appearance of the Mortal Kombat roster, maintaining the recognizable features of the game's brutal aesthetics while fitting the proportions of the standard vinyl figure format.

The design focus for this piece was to translate Kung Lao's iconic appearance from the game into a simplified, uniform collectible style. Designers emphasized the character's primary costume details, including his distinct hat rim and traditional Shaolin robes, while adhering to the common Funko design language of oversized heads and minimalist facial features. Upon release, the figure was generally well-received by Mortal Kombat enthusiasts and collectors who favor complete set completions, serving as a accessible entry point for fans wanting to display a piece of the series' long-standing martial arts legacy on their shelves.
