Where it came from
Lippy the Lion was produced by Funko as part of their Pop! Pez series, which combines the company's iconic stylized vinyl figure aesthetic with the classic collectible Pez dispenser mechanism. Released under the Hanna-Barbera umbrella, this figure captures the flamboyant, top-hat-wearing lion who first appeared in the 1962 animated series Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har. The design serves as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons, reflecting the partnership between Funko and various vintage intellectual properties to create functional, displayable collectibles.
The figure was designed to translate the character's exaggerated features—most notably his signature hat and wide grin—into the simplified, blocky geometry characteristic of the Pop! line. As part of a larger wave of Hanna-Barbera characters, it was intended for collectors of both modern vinyl toys and vintage advertising memorabilia. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of classic animation who appreciated the intersection of 1960s character design with modern toy manufacturing trends.
